The
member organisations of the Okobuero in Austria commented following
topics in which they have expertise: Transport, Mobility, Noise and
Children; Chemicals with special interest on pesticides and lead-pipes
for water supply, Electromagnetic Fields. The project participants are: GLOBAL 2000, Greenpeace CEE, Ärzte für eine gesunde
Umwelt, Forum Wissenschaft und Umwelt.
The discussion
will be based on the content of our position paper which will be presented
at the beginning of the discussion round.
The OEKOBUERO is based in the heart of
Vienna
and their central work is to act as the starting point and information
centre for national and international communication and cooperation
in environmental issues.
It was
in January 1993 that the OEKOBUERO ("Eco-office") was formed
to act as the co-ordination-office of four environmental organisations
based in Austria: Greenpeace Austria, WWF Austria, GLOBAL
2000 (Friends of the Earth Austria) and Umweltforum
Austria.
Today, the OEKOBUERO is the coordination-office of 13 Austrian
Environmental NGOs, which are by the same time the members
of OEKOBUERO. OEKOBUERO therefore is an umbrella organization of different
and influential Austrian Environmental NGOs operating on behalf of their
members. In addition, OEKOBUERO also has contacts to the political,
economic and public sectors in Austria.
Consequently the OEKOBUERO is in the position to actively encourage
and promote communication and information exchange as well as cooperation
between its member organisations. It is hoped that common environmental
goals can be acted on and achieved quickly by improved co-operation
and co-ordination between these organisations that the OEKOBUERO can
be the catalyst for.
OEKOBUERO also organises working groups, workshops and conferences in
addition to publishing environmental policy papers and studies and having
special expertise in environmental law and implementation of the Aarhus-Convention. |
